Thanks for taking time to visit my Web site! Wish we were meeting in person, but I hope learning a little more about my background helps you determine whether what I offer fits your current needs. You may also want to check out what others are saying. To sum it up—my style, no matter the venue or client or topic—is to offer relevant and practical information, designed to meet your specific needs and objectives, presented in an interactive and imaginative format that equips and moves people to action. My purpose statement is to challenge the comfortable and comfort the challenged, and it permeates everything I do.
Education/Corporate Experience
My education includes a bachelors' in Speech Communication from Louisiana Tech University (minor in marketing) and a masters' in Communications Consultancy from Oklahoma State University coupled with extensive executive training and/or certification in sales, leadership and creative thinking strategies with companies such as DDI, Learning International, Bergerac Group, Covey Leadership, and de Bono. I have eight years of corporate leadership experience and more than twelve years experience as a consultant to executives and their teams. My specialty is facilitating team meetings and retreats designed for creative brainstorming, problem-solving, evaluating, planning, conflict resolution, and team building. Before starting my career in consulting, I was determined to gain practical experience in the marketplace so I could offer clients' more than theory-based knowledge learned in graduate school. I progressed rapidly in the corporate world and was selected to open new markets and turn-around troubled markets because of my track record for getting results while impacting morale. I served in division, area, and vice president roles, primarily in the competitive medical sales industry. Corporate clients frequently tell me that having practical, hands-on knowledge of how to affect business results through people sets me apart in the field of consulting. I was Director of Organizational Effectiveness with HDI Consulting in Dallas, then Consulting Director for Johnson & Johnson's internal corporate consulting team before founding TEAMed UP. TEAMed UP is a team-focused consulting firm designed specifically to help teams think and work better together. My executive clients range from small start-ups to Fortune 100 companies, and I also consult with teams within ministries, schools, government, and non-profit organizations. I have written three team leader handbooks:Playing Like a Team: A Collection of Team building Activities that Promote Serious Play and Lead to Serious Results, Facilitate Don't Frustrate: A Collection of Practical and Proven Tips for Facilitating Team Meetings, and Making The Connection: A Reference Guide for Small Group Ministry Leaders, and am regularly asked to speak at conferences and retreats about effective team leadership and teaming skills.
Ministry Experience
I grew up as a PK (preacher's kid), and my dad always tells people that God gave me a head for business and a heart for ministry. I get great joy out of working with ministry teams and their leaders and helping them grow their teams to be as healthy and highly functioning as possible. Consulting and facilitating meetings and retreats for the leadership teams of churches and ministry groups (within varied denominations) gives the work I love doing an even greater sense of significance. In addition to assisting specific ministry teams in strengthening their unity, vitality, and effectiveness, I also speak and conduct workshops at conferences and conventions for ministry leaders from across the country. As part of MOPS International "Leadership for Life" initiative and partnership with RBC Ministries, I was selected to offer a course for ministry leaders on Group Dynamics for ChristianCourses.com, the leading on-line ministry training organization. Besides consulting and training teams and their leaders, I conduct interactive retreats and workshops, through TEAMed UP for Teens, focused on helping teens recognize and maximize their full potential.
My Family
After several moves between Dallas and Boston (and making a mess of our friends' address books), we moved to my hometown in Louisiana to be near my aging parents. My husband, Mark, and I have been married for almost 12 years. We met while I was living in Dallas and he was living in Boston. It was unquestionably a meeting of fate (southern girl meets northern boy) and we've been inseparable ever since! We call our family "Team McCormick." We each recognize that given all the teams we are part of independently and collectively, none is more dynamic and affirming as our own family "team." Our greatest joy is raising our three active and, need I say, adorable boys (Chase 9, Bryce 7, and Pierce 3)!
